How to calculate clock-out time
Clock-out time = clock-in time + target hours + unpaid lunch. That is the same question as “what time should I clock out?” — this calculator does the 12-hour AM/PM conversion for you.
Example: Clock in at 8:00 AM, 30-minute lunch, 8 hours of work.
8:00 AM + 8 hours + 30 minutes = leave at 4:30 PM.
Common 8-hour days with a 30-minute lunch
| Clock in | Clock out |
|---|---|
| 7:00 AM | 3:30 PM |
| 8:00 AM | 4:30 PM |
| 9:00 AM | 5:30 PM |
| 10:00 AM | 6:30 PM |
Daily vs weekly target
- Daily target: when to leave today for a set shift (8 hours, 7.5 hours, etc.).
- Weekly target: when to leave on your last day to hit 40 hours (or any weekly cap). Enter hours already worked this week.
Weekly example: 32 hours already worked, 40-hour week, clock in at 8:00 AM, 30-minute lunch → you still need 8 hours → clock out at 4:30 PM.
Frequently asked questions
What time should I clock out if I start at 8:00 AM?
For an 8-hour day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, clock out at 4:30 PM.
Does lunch count toward hours worked?
Unpaid meal breaks usually do not. Add lunch minutes on top of your target hours. Short rest breaks of 20 minutes or less generally count as hours worked under federal law.
How do I clock out to hit 40 hours this week?
Use Weekly Target. Enter hours already worked, a 40-hour goal, today’s clock-in, and lunch.
